I’ve always considered the following words from Jesus to be the most difficult: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” (Matt. 5:43-44) When it comes to pride, I’m guilty as any, but the other day sort of confirmed this and taught me a valuable lesson: even when you’re right, or wronged by someone else, mercy and forgiveness trump a Pyrrhic victory.
